Jackson Walker's Litigation section today carries on the traditions of over 100 years of courtroom practice, representing clients in a broad range of commercial and tort actions, from multi-billion dollar nuclear power plant litigation to securities class actions to personal injury and property damage lawsuits. The firm's Litigation section is one of the Southwest's largest, with over 125 attorneys firm-wide.
The experience of the firm's Litigation section partners ranges from 8 to 40 years and encompasses hundreds of cases tried to juries and courts in Texas and elsewhere. Five of the firm's litigators are Fellows of the American College of Trial Lawyers, and most are members of other litigation organizations, including local Inns of Court, the Litigation Section of the American Bar Association, the Defense Research Institute, the International Association of Defense Counsel, and the Federation of Insurance & Corporate Counsel. The firm's trial attorneys actively work to improve the federal and state judiciary by participating as members of advisory committees to improve the speed and efficiency of the federal courts, by serving on committees to amend state rules of procedure, and by speaking to and publishing for professional groups and trade organizations. Many of the firm's litigation attorneys have previous professional experience that provides helpful insight into our clients' needs and business practices. The firm's Litigation section includes attorneys with prior government experience, as well as engineers, journalists, educators, accountants, commercial pilots, and members of the petroleum industry.
While many of the firm's clients look to us for representation in traditional business and tort actions, the firm's attorneys are also accustomed to handling matters involving complex and unique legal and factual issues. The firm has coordinated the efforts of several law firms to manage litigation encompassing hundreds of factual and legal issues and millions of pages of relevant documents. The firm's experience has led clients to call upon Jackson Walker to handle their most crucial, time-intensive litigation matters, such as hostile takeovers and "emergency" actions seeking to enjoin or avoid injunctions of business activities. Jackson Walker attorneys have regularly been involved with the trial and appeal of numerous cases of first impression, including intellectual property matters, First Amendment and civil rights matters, litigation under federal and state securities laws, and banking and lender liability questions.
The application of available technology to provide cost-effective litigation services to our clients is a priority at Jackson Walker. The firm offers in-house computerized database and transcript management facilities using state-of-the-art hardware and software systems, and attorneys, paralegals, and technical staff skilled in the use of these tools. Additionally, the firm has in house capabilities for the development of trial graphics and staff trained to implement the system during trial.
Tort and Personal Injury
Our attorneys have defended thousands of personal injury and wrongful death cases over the past 100 years. Additionally, our firm has a substantial practice representing insureds in cases where their conduct is governed by federal statutes, such as the Jones Act or the Federal Employers' Liability Act. In addition to trial experience in the major cities in Texas, Jackson Walker has successfully defended and tried cases in forums traditionally unfavorable to defendants, such as Brazoria, Galveston, Harrison, Jasper, Jefferson, Madison, Maverick, Starr, and many other Texas counties. The types of cases we have handled cannot be easily categorized. However, a representative sampling of the types of cases includes: automobile and trucking accidents; premises liability; aviation accidents; food contamination; railroad, industrial, and construction accidents; and toxic torts such as asbestos.
